About

Falu (Falguni Shah) is a critically-acclaimed vocalist trained under Indian music masters Ustad Sultan Khan and Kishori Amonkar. An ambassador of Indian music at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, her albums have aired on FOX, National Geographic and NPR. She has performed with Yo-Yo Ma, Wyclef Jean, Philip Glass, A.R. Rahman and for President Obama at the White House. Falu’s work has been featured in the NY Times, Times of India, the Wall Street Journal and Vogue, where she was described as “a rare brand of timeless elegance.” In 2015 Falu was featured in Smithsonian’s “Beyond Bollywood” exhibit as representative of Indian trendsetting artists in the US, and the same year she was name by India’s Economic Times as one of the 20 most influential Indian women in the world.

Karyshma is one of the early bands that helped jumpstart the Indian American crossover sound starting in the late 90’s. Started in Boston amidst a group of friends obsessed with the varying nuances in different Indian musical traditions, Karyshma’s debut CD “Nearly Home” draws from East and West, ancient and modern to create a unique tapestry of Ragas, rich lyricism, and haunting melodies.

Falu’s Karyshma is a reunion amongst old friends.

Nation Beat’s live shows have taken on an almost mythological aura for their ability to lift the souls, and the feet, of their growing cross-cultural audience. The band’s music melds Brazilian rhythms – maracatu, coco and forro – with New Orleans funk, rock and jazz. Drummer/percussionist Scott Kettner and the band continue exploring the traditional sounds of New Orleans and Brazil.

Featuring the talents of:
Scott Kettner: drums/percussion
Paul Carlon: tenor sax/arrangements
Paul Carlon: sousaphone
Mariel Bildsten: trombone
Mark Collins: trumpet
