Jodie Herrera Taos In The House!
When?Start time: Friday 6:00am (01 December)
End time: Friday 9:00am (01 December)
Please welcome home town hero Jodie Herrera as she showcases new and older works at FaraHNHeight Fine Art Gallery. We are thrilled to be showing her work in the Galleries Great room throughout the winter. Artist reception will be Friday December 1st from 6-9pm. The exhibition will be on display until March 1st.
Jodie Herrera is a visual artist and curator from Taos, New Mexico. She is of both native and Hispanic descent. Herrera works as an illustrator, muralist, a mixed-media artist, and curator all while predominantly focusing on oil painting.
Herrera has been an artist all of her life. She formally started painting in 2011. Jodie’s complete career in painting has been an homage to the female experience. Her oil paintings are semi-photorealistic figurative works, portraying women that are going through, or have persevered through trauma. Addiction, sexual abuse, and cancer are but some of these traumas. Herrera takes great care with each story. She meets with every model one on one in order to understand and better render their person. She builds a personal and supportive relationship with each of her participants. Herrera then narrates their experiences using symbolism relevant to their interests and heritage. She then incorporates this symbolism into their paintings. Herrera hopes to give back a source power that may have once been taken from her subjects. She strives to serve and celebrate the beauty and resilience of all women.
Herrera received her BFA with honors from the University of New Mexico in 2013, with a focus in oil painting. She currently resides in Albuquerque, NM where she works as a professional artist, co-curator for The Pop-Up Collective and freelance curator/curatorial consultant. The Pop-Up Collective utilizes Albuquerque's vacant and unique spaces to host exceptional one night only Pop-Up art exhibitions.
Herrera’s art has been featured in such settings as The Anderson Museum of Contemporary Arts, The Art and History Museum of Santa Cruz, The Albuquerque Art and History Museum, 516 Gallery, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Center for Contemporary Arts Santa Fe, among many others.
