Art House Film Series: I Am Not Your Negro
Hosted by The Toledo Museum of Art and Community Solidarity Response Network

Friday, Nov. 17: 6-9 p.m., Green Room and Little Theater

As part of the Toledo Museum of Art’s Art House Film Series, TMA and the Community Solidarity Response Network of Toledo (CSRN) are co-hosting a reception and free screening of the documentary “I Am Not Your Negro” (2016, 93 minutes).

The opening reception will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17 in the Green Room, followed by a free screening of “I Am Not Your Negro” at 7 p.m. in the Little Theater.

“I Am Not Your Negro” is an Academy Award-nominated documentary based on American writer and social critic James Baldwin’s (1924–1987) unfinished memoir “Remember This House.” In it, Baldwin discusses the power and purpose of civil rights pioneers Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Medgar Evers as well as his own observations on race relations in America in the 20th century. Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, the documentary uses Baldwin’s words and archival material to examine race in America, from the Civil Rights Movement to the present day.

Space is limited and preregistration is recommended; visit www.toledomuseum.eventbrite.com to register.

Hors d’oeuvre and cash bar will be available during the reception. The Art House Film Series is supported in part by Ann and Joseph Pilkington.
