About

December 7 marks the 42nd anniversary of the U.S.-backed Indonesian invasion of the nascent Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. Independence was finally restored in 2002 and the new nation confronts many challenges.

Join us for a discussion about current challenges confronting the new nation, including strengthening democracy, human rights and justice, poverty and sustainable development, and establishing permanent maritime boundaries.

Charles Scheiner is a co-founder of ETAN. He recently returned to U.S. after years of living and working in Timor-Leste. Scheiner continues to work with La'o Hamutuk ( http://www.laohamutuk.org/), a Timorese research and activist organization. He also serves on ETAN's Executive Committee.

Wheelchair accessible.

Donations requested, no one turned away.
